CityVille Level Up Giveaway: 'Like' CityVille, win a 32GB Apple iPad

While CityVille has close to 100 million players, but unfortunately not even close to the same amount "Like" the game on Facebook. So, starting now Zynga is going to do everything in its power to give that number a nice boost. And it needs your help. Just head over to your CityVille game and "Like" the game using the button above the game screen. You can also visit the CityVile fan page and "Like" the game there.

At several milestones along the way to the coveted 10 million fan mark, Zynga will be giving away a variety of prizes in what it's officially calling the CityVille Level Up Giveaway. Check them out:

7 million Fans (25 people will win 50 City Cash)
8 million Fans (25 people will win 100 City Cash)
9 million Fans (25 people will win 500 City Cash)
10 million Fans (5 people will win 1,000 City Cash and an iPad 32GB with Wi-Fi)

If the game reaches 10 million Fans, then five players will receive 1,000 City Cash and one of the most advanced iPad models out there. Now, that's a lot of prizes, but there's a small problem. If the iPads aren't being given away until the end of the contest, who is going to want to vote early on? (You didn't hear that from us.) While the contest doesn't end until the 10 million fan goal is met, be sure to "Like" the page to guarantee your spot in at least one of the drawings. If you've already "Liked" the game, then sit tight and continue playing as you've already been entered. Isn't it great liking things before they're cool?

CityVille: Glass Condos, Atrium Lofts, and Court House now available

If you've already built all of the available items in CityVille, but you'd like to add new citizens to your town, or you need a new community building so that you can add more citizens to begin with, you'll be happy to hear that three new buildings have been released into the game today. Two are homes, while one is a Community Building, which will raise your total population limit in the game.

The two homes are the Glass Condos and the Atrium Lofts. You'll need to be at least level 55 to use either, with the Atrium Lofts not being unlocked until the current maximum of level 60. This should ensure that even higher level players aren't feeling abandoned when it comes to new content, just because they've hit the max.

The Glass Condos cost 600,000 coins, and add 160 citizens to your population, while the Atrium Lofts cost even more, at 750,000 coins, and add 170 population to your town. Of course, both will earn a small amount of bonus coins for your town as well, with the Condos producing 165 coins every eight hours, and the Lofts creating 220 coins every day.

As for the new Community Building, it is the Court House, and you must be level 55 to add it to your town. It costs just 100,000 coins to do so (not a lot in the world of CityVIlle), and it will increase your maximum population cap by 1700 citizens. To be clear, this doesn't raise the actual population of your town by 1700 - it simply gives you the ability to purchase homes for 1700 more citizens, before needing to build another Community Building.

Zynga upgrades CityVille Franchises, but did it miss the point?

Franchises in CityVille have been in desparate need for a change for some time. In fact, Zynga has hinted that an upgrade to the feature was on the way, and now it's finally here. While the fundamentals of Franchises have not changed, the method through which we can create them and share them has. However, this still doesn't solve the major problem with Franchises: The fundamental fact that there is a large portion of players that franchised early, fruitless Businesses that are now nigh impossible to get rid of through the game. Players have to still contact neighbors directly and ask them to remove their low-level franchised Businesses in favor of high-level, profitable Businesses. But let's start with what has changed.

Franchises VisitPlayers no longer need to create lots in preparation for players that might request a Franchise. When visiting a friend's city, a new icon appears above the five available tasks that looks like an empty Franchise lot. Click this icon to directly request that a Franchise be built in this friend's city. A menu will appear with your Businesses beneath it--choose one and send the request to your friend. Again, Empty Lots are no longer needed initially, but will be created and placed if a friend accepts a Franchise request.

Now, if you enter your city and a friend has requested to build a Franchised Business in your city, a similar icon will appear on your screen to the one when visiting friends. Click on that icon to instantly be put into Place Mode, which replaces your cursor with a Franchise lot. Place it in an appropriate area--near lots of decorations, preferably--and just like that your friend has launched a Franchise in your city. While this is certainly helpful, nothing else has changed, really.

Most notably, there still is no way to delete useless or less profitable Franchises from friends' cities within the game. Players still have to ask neighbors directly via Facebook (a phone call or text is nice if you're close with the friend) to remove the Franchised Business manually in favor of a more profitable one. Until this changes, Franchises will be fundamentally flawed.

Franchise Request
I own Franchises for the Bakery Business and Toy Store Business. Granted, expensive Businesses have higher Good capacities and likely cost more to maintain, they will always be more profitable than Bakeries and Toy Stores. Sure, those with useless Franchises could simply forget about them and request to build new, more profitable Businesses through the new system. But that still doesn't solve the issue of wasted space in friends' cities. It could take a long time before players become privy to the fact that they're supplying Franchised Businesses whose owners no longer even collect on. And we shouldn't have to message our Facebook friends individually to remedy that.

Perhaps Zynga could add a functionality to the Visitor's Center that would players to announce that they've "closed" Franchises and moved on to bigger and better Businesses. Though, that would require players to actually check the Center, which is unreliable. How about adding a big old "Delete" button to each Franchise Headquarters menu? No, not the one that sends the actual building to the inventory, but one that deletes both the HQ permanently and sends an ultimatum to friends who run these Franchised Businesses. The message would read something to the effect of, "Joe has closed his "Joe's Java House" Franchise and will no longer supply it. Would you like to remove this Business to create space for his next Franchise?" So, it's a little cold, but that's business. Is that not what CityVille is all about?

What do you think of the Franchises update? Does this fix the Franchise issues for you or do you agree that it needs more work?

CityVille Upgrade your Bank: Everything you need to know

It seems that every single community building might be heading for an upgrade in CityVille, at the rate this is going. First we had the Post Office and Police Station, and now we can add the Bank to the list of upgradeable buildings in the game. To upgrade the Bank, you'll need to click on the building (after collecting its profits, where applicable), and then make sure you have enough friends (or Samantha bonuses) to fill the eight total positions needed to upgrade the building. After all, for a bigger business, you need more staff to run it.

Once that's done, your Bank will go from a population allowance of 250 citizens to allowing 350 citizens to live in your town. You'll also earn the chance to receive Gold Plating and bonus energy every time you collect the profits from your Bank from there on in. Once reaching this level, you can upgrade yet again by having 10 positions filled. This gives you a chance to earn two Gold Plating and even more bonus energy when collecting. Currently, level 3 is as high as you can take your Bank in terms of upgrades.

We'll make sure to let you know whether or not more upgrades come to other buildings in the game.

Check out the rest of our CityVille Cheats & Tips right here.

Have you started upgrading your Bank? What do you think of all of these building upgrades in the game?

CityVille offers the glitz and glam with new Hollywood decorations

In addition to the rewards you'll receive by completing the Movie Star Goals in CityVille, you can also purchase a set of businesses, homes and decorations in the game's store in the same Hollywood theme.

For the lone Business, you can pick up the Bowling Alley, which costs just 6,000 coins. It needs 180 Goods to operate, and you'll be able to collect 765 coins of profit every time those Goods are used. Meanwhile, a single residence is also available to purchase - the Private Estate, which starts at a population of 120 that can be expanded to 220 citizens. It costs 7,500 coins and gives off 150 coins in profit regardless of the number of citizens "living" in it.

The other items are decorations, and you can find out all about them behind the break.
There are five decorative goodies currently available in the game, with some being available for both coins or City Cash.

Celebrity Trailer - 24,000 coins - 9% bonus payout
Star Walk (sidewalk) - 50 coins per piece
Celebrity Billboard - 15 City Cash - 6% bonus payout
Daring Rescue (movie scene) - 24,000 coins - 9% bonus payout
Alien Attack (movie scene) - 20 City Cash - 14% bonus payout

While the Bowling Alley business may not immediately scream of a Hollywood theme, plenty of movies contain scenes inside them, so I can definitely find the connection (oh, and "They call me the dude").

While none of these items have a listed expiration date, it's likely that some of them won't be around forever, so shop fast!

Do you plan on creating your own movie set in your city? Which scenes will you include or ignore? Do you like the idea of creating a Hollywood Walk of Fame in your town?

CityVille Sneak Peek: Emergency Clinic upgrades incoming

    CityVille Emergency Clinic 2
If you hadn't noticed, there has been a growing trend in Zynga games: It's all about the upgrades. And these images of unreleased Emergency Clinic upgrades in CityVille, thanks to CityVille Chat, confirm the ongoing fad. If this feature releases to CityVille, players will soon be able to upgrade their Emergency Clinic for it to provide more Ribbons and more Energy with each level upgraded (max of two). According to the leak, increasing your population will unlock the higher Emergency Clinic tiers, which is somewhat different from the other Community Building upgrades. We'll have more details as soon as this new feature launches.

Are you excited to upgrade the Emergency Clinic? How do you feel about this ongoing trend in Zynga games?

CityVille Campaign Committee Goal: Everything you need to know

If you're looking for a way to earn extra coins, XP and Zoning Permits in CityVille, and you have a lot of friends that are always willing to help you out, you might be interested in the new "Campaign Committee" goal that was launched this week in the game. This feature is open to users that are at least level 15 and have at least one City Hall building in their town. As of right now, this is a one-time only feature, and instead of showing up on the left-hand side of your screen as other goals appear, this one must be activated by you by collecting from your City Hall when it's ready.

The next time you collect your profits from your City Hall, you'll see a new menu, asking you whether or not you'd like to start this new goal. You'll have just 24 hours to collect as much help from your City Hall staff members as you plan your campaign for your run for Governor. There are three levels of prizes associated with this goal, with more upgraded City Halls unlocking better prizes, and the amount of friends that ultimately help you also affecting your rewards. For a Level 2 City Hall, the three level of rewards are 10,000 coins, 40 XP and 3 Zoning Permits.

Once you start the goal (remember, it's a manual start - you can choose to do so whenever you're ready), you'll be able to post wall posts to your friends' walls asking them to come help you out. If you happen to have many spaces filled by Samantha or just blank staff positions, you can fill those by asking friends as well. When a friend responds to your call for help, you'll see a green check mark appear next to their name on the list. After the 24 hour period has passed, you'll receive whatever prizes you've received for your current level (note: you can track your current status on prizes by looking inside the goal's menu, as seen below).

Again, this Campaign Committee goal is a one-time-only activity for your town. Perhaps if it goes over well enough with users, we'll see another opportunity to ask our friends for help with campaign "donations," but for now, just focus all of your efforts on earning the most rewards from this feature while you can.

What do you think of the Campaign Committee feature in CityVille? Would you like to see this be an ongoing feature in your town?

CityVille: Casa del Sol offers fun-in-the-sun living for a huge price

If you thought the Playa del Rey Apartments in CityVille were expensive, costing 75 City Cash for a population boost of 2,350 citizens (at least), try this newest building on for size. The Casa del Sol home is priced at 90 City Cash, and is also in the Mexican item theme, making it limited edition. Specifically, the Casa del Sol home will be in the game for 10 days (note that that's also one day less than the Playa del Rey Apartments).

Once you purchase the Casa del Sol, you'll have a home that starts with a whopping population of 3,000 citizens, and can be upgraded by collecting from the building (or your friends can collect from them as well; all upgrades drop randomly) to a staggering figure of 5,500 citizens. If you're looking for a quick way (albeit expensive way) to unlock that next expansion by reaching your next population goal without adding multiple homes to your town, this would definitely be an easy way to get that done. However, at a price this high, even I'm not sure it's worth it.

Still, I suppose the building's rent potential could raise its value. You'll receive 156 coins every hour if you're prompt enough to routinely collect your earnings, which would give you upwards of 3,000 coins daily, if you were really on top of things. Still, does that justify the current cost of over $11 US for this single building? I'll leave you to be the judge of that.

What do you think of the Casa del Sol in CityVille? Will you purchase one of the expensive homes for your city, or would you rather purchase multiple, cheaper buildings instead? Let us know in the comments.
